Frequently Asked Questions About Corrugated Shipping Cartons
RSC or die-cut — which should I order?
RSC is the default: lowest board waste, fast converting, good for most freight. Order die-cut when you need lock-bottom, a handle, a window, or a mailer that opens like a retail pack.
When is single-wall enough?
E-commerce, consumer goods, spare parts, food inner packs and any job where cube, print and cost matter more than high warehouse stack.
When should I step up to double-wall?
Export cases, appliances, bottled goods, automotive assemblies and reused pallet stacks. Typical BC flute: about 6.5–7.8 mm, 48–62 kN/m ECT, 500–650 psi burst.
Which flute should I specify?
C — default shipping flute.
B — thinner, stiffer, better puncture; good for retail and die-cuts.
E — print face and low cube.
BC — most common double-wall.
A or AC/AA when you need more cushion, not finer print.
What do ECT and burst actually tell me?
ECT predicts stacking (and feeds BCT). Burst / Mullen is resistance to rupture. “Single-wall” or “double-wall” is not a strength grade — put a number on the PO.
Can these cartons be printed?
Yes. 1–4 colour flexo is typical. E- and B-flute take print best. Heavy DW is usually one or two colours unless the outer flute is E.
Are they water-resistant?
Uncoated kraft is not. Strength drops above about 85% RH or after wetting. For damp lanes specify wet-strength or coated liners — or move to a foil-lined spec if splash on the inner face is the problem.
When is a shipping carton the wrong product?
Gaylord / octabin for bulk fill, Paper IBC for ~1000 L, foil-lined box for short cold chain, triple-wall or extra-large heavy carton when DW is not enough.
